GTA 5 and GTA Online are no longer supported on the Steam Deck; find out why!

It’s been at least two years since GTA 5 It is one of the most played titles on the Steam Deck — forming part of the top 20 positions on the lists for a long time now. However, support for the game on Valve’s laptop appears to have come to an end due to an anti-cheat system recently launched by Rockstar in GTA Online.

This happened because the studio added the BattlEye anti-cheat to GTA Onlinewhich ended up impacting the compatibility of GTA 5 with the Steam Deck. Now, the game that was extremely popular on the platform is classified as “not supported” on Valve’s handheld.

The Steam Deck is one of the best “portable PCs” today, but its Linux-based SteamOS system sometimes negatively impacts the compatibility of some games — as is the case with GTA 5. Apparently, this is what Rockstar wanted from the beginning.

Rockstar blames Valve for blocking GTA 5 and GTA Online on Steam Deck

Rockstar released BattlEye for GTA Online with the intention of dealing with the absurd amount of cheaters in the game — which consequently ended up affecting game support. GTA 5 in the process.

Some anti-cheat software may conflict with the Steam Deck system — and it is precisely for this reason that games like Roblox e Fortnite are not supported on the platform.

The studio is blaming Valve for the issue, claiming that “the Steam Deck does not support BattlEye for GTA Online” and directing all player inquiries to Valve.

“GTA 5 e GTA Online are not officially supported on the Steam Deck and all technical support questions should be directed to Valve’s Steam Deck content and support community.”

In November 2021, Valve said that enabling a game with BattlEye to run on the Steam Deck is literally “as easy as sending an email.” Therefore, it was not clear why the GTA 5 e GTA Online not portable.

Rockstar’s official FAQ also warns that players will still “be able to enjoy the story mode of GTA 5but they will not be able to play GTA Online“.
