Netflix began releasing mobile games for free to its subscribers in 2021 through its smartphone app. And according to the website mobilegamer.biz, with data from Appmagic, since then there have been more than 210 million downloads by its usersshowing that the practice is a real success.
In addition, the site itself released a ranking of the most downloaded titles on the platform. To the surprise of zero people, GTA San Andreas appears in first position with more than 25 million downloads in total. In addition to it, another chapter of the franchise, GTA Vice Cityalso appears on the list with just under 8 million downloads.

The list released also draws attention to some interesting facts. For example, the third position occupied by Spongebob: Get Cookinga cooking game featuring the character SpongeBob, which is free on both iOS and Android.

Growth in games
The arrival and success of the GTA franchise clearly helped boost Netflix’s gaming division. In 2022, only 1% of the streaming platform’s users were using the gaming function.
Even with the low numbers, the company continued to invest in games, including award-winning productions such as Terra Nil, Immortality, Spiritfarer and Oxenfree. However, it was only with the arrival of the Grand Theft Auto series that the games division really began to take off.
