The Summer Game Fest announcement season kicked off this Friday, the 7th, with an event presented by Geoff Keighley, who is also the creator of The Game Awards. The live broadcast lasted around two hours and brought news of many games loved by the public, including Alan Wake 2, Monster Hunter Wilds e Street Fighter 6.
Although the revelations of new titles were one of the absences of this year’s edition, it brought names like Wanderstopfrom the same creators of the irreverent The Stanley Parable; e Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, which is a bath of nostalgia for the 16 and 32 bit era. In the following lines, the Voxel brings a summary of the 2024 Summer Game Fest announcements. Check it out:
LEGO Horizon Adventures
Although it was already the topic of recent leaks, LEGO Horizon Adventures was officially presented with its gameplay trailer at Summer Game Fest. The game, which is a collaboration between Guerrilla Games and Studio Gobo, emphasizes cooperative multiplayer and the humor characteristic of LEGO games.
The launch is scheduled for the end of the year, with no date yet set, with versions for PC, PS5 and Nintendo Switch — including cross-play support.
No More Room in Hell 2
One of the surprises of the event was No More Room in Hell 2a first-person shooter, with a post-apocalyptic theme, from the same creators of Chivalry in which eight players must meet, amid chaos, to face zombies.
One of the game’s striking points is its permanent death mechanic, in addition to appealing to a much more horror atmosphere. There are no release details yet, but the game will receive Early Access later this year on PC.
Metaphor: ReFantazio
One of the strongest names in the RPG genre scheduled for this year, Metaphor: ReFantazio got a new gameplay trailer in which it presents its Archetype mechanics. And of course, the similarities to Persona are not a mere coincidence, since the title is from the same golden team responsible for the main games in the Atlus series.
During the Summer Game Fest period, the producer promises to release many additional details about Metaphor: ReFantaziowhich arrives on October 11th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series with subtitles in Brazilian Portuguese.
Neva
The team responsible for Gris presented its next release: Neva. The game nails its art direction, which conveys a melancholic feeling, and promises to be more ambitious in its gameplay mechanics. It is also worth highlighting the design of its protagonist, Alba, and the companionate relationship she has with a mythological wolf.
The game will arrive in 2024 with versions for PC, PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch, with no set date yet.
Cuffbust
Following the aesthetic of funny games to have fun with friends, Cuffbust was revealed during Summer Game Fest. Produced by just one person, its premise is to bring together a group of players and escape from a prison.
There are several ways to do this, but you will have to deal with police resistance and possible communication problems — since the idea is to cooperate. The game continues without a release date or confirmed platforms.
Street Fighter 6
With the end of the first season of Street Fighter 6, Capcom revealed the new characters coming to the popular fighting game. The list includes classic figures, such as the villain M. Bison and Elena, but also the unusual presence of Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui, from Fatal Fury.
The characters begin to arrive this Brazilian autumn, but there is no exact forecast or gameplay revealed. For now, it’s worth checking out the announcement trailer:
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves
Speaking of fighting games and SNK, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves also got a new trailer. The game is a sequel to the iconic Garou: Mark of the Wolvesfrom the 90s, and now it has also confirmed characters like B. Jenet and Vox Reaper — which is new to the franchise.
It is worth remembering that this game arrives after 26 years of expectations and is scheduled for release in mid-2025, with versions for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind
Following a retro aesthetic, Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind It was one of the most memorable games of the event. It revives not only the 16-bit aesthetic of the franchise’s street fighting games, but also 32-bit with more polygonal and dynamic segments — as its proposal is to play with a version of the villain from the future that allies with the one from the past.
The game is produced by Digital Eclipse and remains without a release date at the moment.
Wanderstop
One of the biggest surprises of the event, Wanderstop is a new game from the creators of Stanley Parable and which mixes management of a tea shop and a small farm in an enchanted forest — all with a very cartoonish and colorful aesthetic. However, the game also promises a dense narrative and it is to be expected that its development will be… Unusual, given the precedent of the studio responsible.
After all, its protagonist is a former warrior who has difficulty accepting her life choices, and her daily dilemmas must manifest themselves in camp activities and interactions with clients. It’s an interesting proposal, but it doesn’t have a release date yet.
Alan Wake 2
The long-awaited expansion of Alan Wake 2 has already arrived. And it’s no exaggeration, as Sam Lake took the Summer Game Fest stage to confirm that Night Springs arrives tomorrow, on June 8, with new stories about three characters beloved by fans. Among them, Jesse Feden, from Controlto add more fuel to Remedy’s shared universe.
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess
Capcom was undoubtedly the publisher that appeared most at the event, as it also brought a sample of its new intellectual property, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. The game mixes strategy, tower defense and real-time action with an eye-catching traditional Japanese aesthetic.
The game also had its release confirmed for July 19, with versions for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series, including Game Pass. Check out the unreleased trailer:
Monster Hunter Wilds
Despite the recent preview of Monster Hunter Wilds that we had at State of Play, Capcom showed a little more of its big release, which is scheduled for 2025. The video highlights a little more of the narrative direction and dynamism of the battles, which promise to play a lot with hordes of monsters and gigantic environmental events, which unfold in real time.
Civilization VII
Sequel to the famous strategy series, Civilization VII received a brief teaser during the Summer Game Fest, which unfortunately does not delve into gameplay — which should only be released in August.
The launch is scheduled for 2025, with versions for all current and old generation platforms.
Valuing
It may seem strange, but Valuing had a lot of prominence at the Summer Game Fest. This is because Riot Games was more emphatic in the fact that the game is on its way to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoleswith a Beta scheduled to take place on June 14th.
As this is a controlled test, interested players must register through official profiles to guarantee access. By the way, the new trailer shows the game running directly on consoles.
Batman: Arkham Shadows
Confirming rumors, a new game in the series Batman: Arkham is under development. However, it is a virtual reality game and will be exclusive to Meta Quest 3.
The game, called Batman: Arkham Shadowspromises exploration, stealth and combat mechanics for which the franchise is known and is scheduled for release at the end of the year.
Sonic x Shadow Generations
Considered one of the best three-dimensional Hedgehog games, Sonic Generations will get a new version on October 23rd on PC and consoles. One of the highlights of this new edition is new content starring Shadow the Hedgehog, including stages that do not exist in the original version of the game.
Phantom Blade Zero
Previously announced at PlayStation Showcase, Phantom Blade Zero closed the event with a slightly bitter taste. On paper, it’s another game that follows the aesthetics of old Japan, with a darker theme and fast-paced combat that takes us back to titles like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
The game does not yet have a release date, but it was revealed that a playable version will be shown at in-person events throughout the year — including Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show. To date, no opportunities in Brazil have been confirmed.
