A Esports World Cupan event that will last for 8 weeks and takes place in Riyadh, already Saudi Arabia, may have the presence of LoL as one of the modalities.
The information gathered by the journalist Jacob Wolf was obtained in an email from Riot Games over the past holidays.
After running a $45M esports tournament in 2023, the Saudi Arabian government’s won over the largest publisher in the industry: Riot Games.
The Esports World Cup is set to feature a League of Legends tournament this summer, per an internal email.

According to the journalist, Riot Games is working on a format with two teams from each Major region in the competition, that is: LPL (China), LCK (South Korea), LCS (NA) and LEC (EU). According to the source, Riot would not choose the organizations.
Will Minor regions be left out of the Esports World Cup?
It was not clear whether teams from Minor regions, such as CBLOL, will participate, but in the email Riot asked the regions to adjust their calendars, leaving a week of “off” so that the teams could go in the first week of July. For now, the CBLOL 2024 calendar continues with games in the aforementioned week.
The model with two international competitions has existed for almost 10 years. The Esports World Cup would be the third major international event on the official competitive League of Legends calendar, alongside the Worlds and the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI).
The news will happen shortly after the MSI, which will take place in May, in China.
Riot commented on the possible inclusion of LoL in the modalities

We know that the community has been asking for more international and interregional competitions. We are talking to several tournament organizers – including the esports world cup – with the intention of releasing teams to participate in these events.
