It’s true that video games are an increasingly expensive hobby, with launch titles arriving with prices that can be equivalent to 1/4 of minimum wage. According to the IBGEat least 29.6% of the Brazilian population lived, by 2022, with an income of up to half a minimum wage per capita — that is, around 63.8 million people receiving up to R$606 per month.

It’s a pretty scary scenario and one that helps explain, in particular, the appeal of free games on digital platforms in Brazil and other initiatives focused on democratizing access to entertainment and culture.

With that in mind, the Voxel brings, in the following lines, a list of five free games to redeem and play over the weekend. Check it out:

Empyrion – Galactic Survival

This week, the Epic Games Store is offering Empyrion – Galactic Survival free of charge to its users. Produced by Eleon Game Studios SA, the title is described as an open world survival game in outer space, in the style sandbox.

It combines space exploration, construction mechanics, survival with scarce resources and first-person shooter, giving players the possibility to build planetary settlements and extract resources to survive.

The game will be available for redemption until October 17th and supports cooperative multiplayer.

Outliver: Tribulation

Also available for redemption on the Epic Games Store, Outliver: Tribulation is a game of survival horror inspired by African mythology. Players take control of Bolanle Gboyega, a soldier fleeing from insurgents who mysteriously ends up in the Realm of Tribulations, where she must undergo an ancient ritual to regain passage back to her kingdom.

According to the developers, the gameplay draws inspiration from the souls genre and features intense battles, as well as solving puzzles and possibilities to improve the character’s characteristics and items.

Harbinger

Do you miss frantic first-person games, like Doom, Quake and Unreal Tournament? Then there’s a good chance you’ll have fun with Harbinger. Available for free on Steam, the game does not hide its inspiration from 90s boomer shooters and places the player in brutal arenas with a diverse arsenal.

With each new section, the player can visit a bar to interact with NPCs and improve their equipment. The game also features very colorful visuals and enemies made into sprites, which further contribute to the retro aesthetic.

DINO CRISIS Rebirth

You didn’t read it wrong: we are really talking about Dino Crisisthe classic horror franchise with dinosaurs from Capcom and which is a derivative of Resident Evil. Not case, Dino Crisis Rebirth is not an official game, but rather a remake of the first title made by developer Stefano Cagnani on Unreal Engine 4.

The idea of the project is to convey all the atmosphere and horror of the original in a more modernized way, and players already have a taste with a demo available for free download.

If Capcom doesn’t do it, the fans won’t waste time and take the lead, right?

Rift of the NecroDancer

This is not the first time we have indicated Rift of the NecroDancer here, but there’s a good reason for that. The game demo has been updated with new music and other content on Steam.

As the name suggests, the game is a spin-off of the acclaimed Crypt of the NecroDancerby Brace Yourself Games, but this time with mechanics centered on a more traditional rhythm game – with tracks through which musical notes travel and even minigames inspired by Rhythm Heavenfrom Nintendo.

The complete game arrives in 2024, with no scheduled release date.
