23 years later, Final Fantasy XI fills server and worries until Square Enix

Although not so popular in Brazil, Final Fantasy XI is a famous Square Enix online game, originally released in 2002, standing out as the tenth first title of the Final Fantasy franchise.

Recently Final Fantasy XI has completed 23 years since its release. By age and for being an online game, it would not be strange to think the game is “dead and abandoned”, but not quite, because in fact the title is firm and strong.

As revealed by Square Enix, its most popular server, Asura, is so overwhelmed that the company has announced being preparing to temporarily close for new players.

“Development and operations teams have been working hard to make you all more like your experience in the game, but it has been found that the concentration of players in certain worlds has caused a number of unexpected problems that have impacted the quality of this experience a little.”

“We especially realize these problems in Asura, so to ensure a more stable operation going forward, we plan to implement the following measures from Tuesday, July 29, with the aim of better balanced the population of players among the worlds. We thank everyone for their understanding and collaboration with this subject.”

The creation of new characters in Asura will be blocked, except for accounts that already have characters in this world. The team will continue to follow the number of connected users and other factors to decide when to resume suspended services.
