Mattel’s fashion icon, Barbie is continuing to roll out the 60th anniversary celebrations with the launch of a new apparel collaboration with the fashion brand, BAPE. The deal will roll out across Japan, UK, the US and France.
Under the new partnership, three-limited edition BAPE x Barbie dolls with BAPE x Barbie fashion packs will combine the styles of both brands, allowing Barbie dolls to be dressed head to toe in BAPE items, including its Shark Hoodie, BAPE Head Tee and BAPE STA.
BAPE x Barbie blends BAPE’s signature camo with Barbie’s classic ponytail silhouette for its own tribute to the brands’ globally recognised logos. Barbie-inspired pop colours and logos are mixed with BAPE aesthetics for the 17-item collection for women and kids, including jackets, sweatshirts, pants, jewellery and more.
Since 1959, the Barbie™ brand’s purpose has been to inspire the limitless potential in every girl. From princess to president, astronaut to zoologist, there isn’t a plastic ceiling she hasn’t broken, read a statement from the firm.
Over her six decades, Barbie has evolved into a pop-culture icon and served as a muse to the fashion world. With an eye set on the rise of streetwear, Barbie has teamed up with Japanese street fashion legends, BAPE. Combining Barbie’s signature pink with BAPE’s infamous original designs, the BAPE x Barbie collection pays homage to the iconic insignia that extends to an apparel and accessory collection for women and children.
The full line launches April 2019 in-stores and online in Japan, UK, US and France.
