The LEGO Movie scoops Critics’ Choice award following Oscars snub

The LEGO Movie picked up the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Animated Feature at a ceremony held at the Hollywood Palladium last night.

Historically, the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards are the most accurate predictor of the Academy Awards but The LEGO Movie’s win came in the same day that it failed to make the shortlist in the same category for the Oscars.

“We want to thank you guys, the Critics’ choosers, for having the courage to give an award to something called The Lego Movie," said the film’s co-director Phil Lord.

The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards are bestowed annually by the The Broadcast Film Critics Association to honour the finest in cinematic achievement.

The BFCA is the largest film critics’ organisation in the United States and Canada, representing almost 300 television, radio and online critics.
