Seven year old Gower School schoolgirl Lexi Jary has won VTech’s Short Story Competition with her story ‘Time Travel Trouble’.
The competition, judged by Horrible Histories author Terry Deary, invited four to eight year olds from across the UK to submit their own short story, with the winning entry being published as an InnoTab e-book.
To celebrate the launch of VTech’s new InnoTab MAX, Lexi’s story is now an InnoTab e-book complete with her own illustrations, which can be downloaded free of charge from the InnoTab Learning Lounge from today.
“There is a clever plot device which helps the narrator to get out of the dramatic situations she finds herself in, and there is dialogue which is fairly natural and is a window into her character," said Deary.
"Then there is that x-factor about it – some quality I can’t analyse or define. I just know it makes me think, ‘I wish I’d written that!’ Skillful.
“The story has all the elements I look for in a story. It has a plot that drives the story forward and makes me want to find out what happens. The ending is satisfying and there is a point to it – there is something to think about.”
Lexi added: ‘"When I found out that I’d won the Short Story competition I was stunned.
"I am a massive fan of Horrible Histories, the books and TV show, which are hilarious. So knowing that author Terry Deary thought my story was good was just amazing.
"And becoming a proper author myself is a dream come true. I love reading and hope other people enjoy my book too."
