Online toy shop goes bricks and mortar in Broadstairs

Online toy retailer, Canterbury Toy Shop has made the leap to bricks and mortar, opening up a new traditional toyshop in Broadstairs.

The new shop – called Small World and specialising in wooden toys – opened for business last Saturday and hosted a grand opening over the weekend.

Store owner Ashley Millward decided to open the store when the building – previously a dolls house shop also called Small World – came up for sale.

“I have always wanted my own shop but the aim was to have one five years in to the business,” she told Thanet Gazette.

“We really fell in love with the shop and feel we have rescued it and opened an exciting looking toy shop.”

Millward launched her business in 2011 after she and her husband spotted a gap in the market while shopping for toys for their son.

“Our toys go down a very niche route,” she continued.

“They have a very nostalgic element which I think reminds people of their childhood.

“There are no toyshops like us around and I think Broadstairs lends itself well to independent shops.”
